Pleased to attend the sod cutting ceremony at the site of the old Highlands Inn in North-West Fareham

Pleased to attend the sod cutting ceremony at the site of the old Highlands Inn in North-West Fareham today to mark the start of construction of eighteen new one and two-bedroom apartments for social rent.

The properties will be built on a brownfield site by local building company, FE Chase and Sons. The Warsash-based company was selected through the Council’s procurement process which supports small and medium sized enterprises.

Once built, the new development will provide much needed homes for customers on Fareham Borough Council’s Housing Register. The properties will be owned and managed by Fareham Housing, the department within the Council responsible for council-owned properties. Tenants will have to pay social rent, which is the least expensive affordable housing option.

It’s really important that we provide much needed affordable housing in Fareham. This development marks the start of an increased focus on Fareham Housing providing more affordable homes.

The new construction was awarded grant funding from Homes England of nearly £1.3m and is expected to be completed in Summer 2020.

The Mayor, Pamela Bryant was also joined by Fareham North-West Councillors Peter Davies and Fred Birkett plus Chairman of the Housing Scrutiny Panel, Kay Mandry

Heritage Open Days this weekend offer a lot of family entertainment in Hampshire.

The Hovercraft Museum at Daedalus had a fantastic open day and it was good to go onboard The Princess Anne. Also a pleasure to meet Portsmouth & Southampton Mini Owners Club with a great selection of minis on display.

Heritage Open Days – Bursledon Brickworks Museum

Bursledon Brickworks Museum had a wonderful selection of displays and vehicles plus bus trips around the local area. Great to see the museum doing so well and many thanks to the Friends of Bursledon Brickworks for all that they do. When I set the group up a quarter of a century ago I never dreamed it would flourish so.
